Second tool: ICT as a communicative tool

My understanding of the concept of ICT as a communicative tool

  

In the next lesson, we learned about ICT as a communicative tool. Through my tutor presentation, I came to how ICT acts as a communicative tool with examples. Communicative tools are systems that allow easy communication between teachers and students or between students outside the physical barrier classroom. It is including e-mail, electronic bulletin boards, chat, teleconference and electronic whiteboard.

Synchronous communicative tools such as chat or video conference enable real-time communication while using the tools of communicative asynchronous (eg e-mail and electronic whiteboard) is a system in which exchange of messages between people is not 'live' but somehow delayed. 

There are many communicative software or programs but I want to share how we use Skype and blogs. Due to the coronavirus outbreak of in our country, meeting or going to the class is strictly prohibited by the law. So, we used the following two communicative software for effective communication, to carry out our class and keep update ourselves on the lesson.

Knowledge and experience that I got after using Skype as a communicative tool

To have effective communication between teachers and students, my tutor guide all of us to create an account on Skype. After numerous processes and guidance from my tutor, I can create an account on Skype. After having a session using Skype software, I found that software allows easy communication between teachers and students or between students outside the physical barrier classroom.

The picture below shows how I used Skype software to communicate with my classmate to clear the doubt on any topic or module that we faced.

My future plan to use Skype software 

After experiencing the lesson using Skype software, I am going to use this software to clear the student's doubts during holidays. Maximum students cannot get time to reach to the teacher to clear the doubt that they faced. Moreover, it is time-consuming and risky to travel a long distance to reach to teacher's place. For instance, if teachers use and create a group on Skype to clear the students to doubt during holidays, it is less time consuming and all the students will get a clear concept on questions that they asked. Hence, in the future, if I get a chance to work in the education sector I will use skype software to clear the student's doubt during holidays.

Knowledge, skills and experiences that I got after using blog as a communicative tool

From my tutor's presentation, I came to know the blog is an online journal or informational website displaying information in the reverse chronological order. It is a platform where a writer shares their views on an individual subject.

To use the blog as a communicative tool, my tutor has given us an activity to create a blog. The image below shows the activity assign to us to create the blog. The picture below shows the instruction on how to carry out the activity on the blog.

After using the blog for almost two weeks, I found that it is a great opportunity platform to share my views and reflect on what I learned in the ICT module. Through this blog, I got a chance to read my friend's article and reflection on any topic. Moreover, after reading my friends reflection from the blog I learned how to write interesting reflection with relevant evidences.

What I learned after receiving the feedback from friends in the blog

After receiving the comments from my friends in the blog its really motivate me to write more in the blog as the maximum comments I received were positive comments. Few friends have given comments to improve my language structure. I took a friend's comments into consideration and tried to improve my language structure by reading a grammar book and searching for important grammar rules from YouTube. The below picture shows the comment that I received from my friends.

In the future, if I get a chance to teach in upper primary I will let the students use blogs to maintain their take away message from the topic that I teach. To make possibles to write in the blog by the students I will approach individual student's parents on blogs. So, every parent will let their children write in the blog.

Brief introduction about Information and communication technology (ICT)

ICT stands for “Information and communication technology”. It refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunication. This includes the internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums. Information communication technologies (ICT) at present are influencing every aspect of human life. They are playing significant roles in workplaces, businesses, education, and entertainment. In this digital era, ICT use in the classroom is important for giving students opportunities to learn and apply the required 21st-century skills. ICT improves teaching and learning and its importance for teachers in performing their role as creators of pedagogical environments. ICT helps a teacher to present his teaching attractively and able to learn for the learners at any level of educational programs.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) consists of various tools and systems that can be exploited by capable and creative teachers to improve teaching and learning situations. The classification of ICT tools that we are going to learn in the ICT module as:

First tool: ICT as an informative tool

What I learned through my tutor presentation/teaching on ICT as informative tool

The first tool that we learned was ICT as an informative tool. As soon as sir introduces the topic I am glad to attend the class because I know a few things about ICT as an informative tool. Till now I am using a computer to browse the information for my assignment.

From my tutor's presentation, I understood that Informative tools are applications or programs that provide large amounts of information in different formats such as text, graphics, sound, or video. On top of that, I came to know ICT based information sources such as television, radio, and the internet. When I am young radio is a source of information box and source of entertainment for me as we don’t have an internet connection and television in my village.

My previous teacher lacked the knowledge of ICT as an informative tool 

From the next slide, I learned how we use ICT as an informative tool in our lessons. I think it is very important to learn and have knowledge who wants to become a future teacher to use ICT as an informative tool in our lesson. During my school time, my teacher always teaches us biology through the PowerPoint presentation. He will copy-paste everything from the textbook and teach us through PowerPoint presentation which we never learn anything. When I am reflecting, my previous teacher didn’t use ICT as an informative tool in the lesson. 

 I learned about how we should use ICT as an informative tool in our classroom and its advantages as shown below;


As soon as my tutor asked a question to the class like how do we use ICT as an informative tool in our lesson? I don’t have any answer to my tutor's question. Through my tutor's explanation, I understood how we should use ICT as an informative tool in our lesson.

Through my tutor presentation, I came to know why it is important to use ICT as an informative Tool or the advantages of using ICT as an informative tool. My tutor explain six points of why to use ICT as an informative tool or advantages of using ICT as an informative tool as shown below;

            

Above six points I am interested to know one of the advantages of using ICT as an informative tool- enhance critical thinking. When I am young I never get the chance to use a computer or watch television hence I lack critical thinking or high order thinking. 

When I compare my olden teenage to present teenage, they are more advanced and able to think critically due to the result of modern science and technology. Hence I believe that ICT enhances critical thinking.

Skills and knowledge that I got from the Class task 

Finally, my tutor assigns us class Task to as shown below;

 

To do the class task I had use different search engine to search the related information to prove my topic that is“Hitler was a gay”.  Examples as shown below;

 

I learned how to search the relate and informative information from different sources. I got a lot of information about Hitler's Sexuality from a different source to prove my topic. Below ppt was made by myself to prove "Hitler was a gay" using the information from different sources.

By doing this activity I came to know ICT as an informative tool as it’s providing large amounts of information in different formats such as text, graphics, sound, or video within a short period.

How can I use ICT as informative tool in classroom 

If I were future teacher or if I gets chance to teach in the future, I will use ICT to teach in a such a way that all the students in the classroom will understand the messages convey by me. Showing video and reading from the PowerPoint presentation is not ICT as an informative tool. Usages of ICT should cater the all the needs of children that is quality of education. I will plan a lesson using the ICT in such a way that from my lesson students should learn to integrate relevant ideas, learn to analyze the information and enhance the critical thinking.

Teaching in remote school using the ICT

In some part of remote school they don't have any facilities of internet connection and television line. In this case teacher have no option to teach the lesson through PowerPoint presentation and through television. For that teachers have to use phone to integrate the ICT lesson as all the teachers will have phone. Teacher should browse or search the relevant video to show to the students to teach on particular topic. But video should add value to their activities, enhance teaching and learning process and there should daily learning process.
